The Garbage Truck
The other day I felt a prompting to suit up and show up at my local Planned Parenthood. Not sure what I would encounter on this particular windy day.
When I arrived , I was welcomed by a newly installed fencing around the facility . Earlier in the year , PP had purchased a home from the children of the elderly mother who passed away. She was a kind woman and would make knitted baby booties for me to hand out with the baby clothes I offered to women and men.
I was ever grateful over the years for her act of kindness towards the unborn. I attempted to arrange pro life people in my community to buy this home as it would have been perfect as a pro life center for us to offer free resources and ultrasounds. Sadly, the highest bidder was PP.
On this day, despite all the construction going on, people were still coming to the mill. I grabbed my baby clothes and just one pro life sign . I prayed my rosary silently and gave out literature as the cars pulled in. Thankfully, the guard kept at a distance for at least a little while.
Unfortunately , it did last too long once he realized I was getting cars to stop and chat with me. He posted himself at the entrance and watched me like a hawk… he became unrelenting in his efforts to remind me not to block the driveway as cars pulled in.
About 30 min later , a young woman drove out of the parking lot. No one was behind her. She was not blocking traffic and thankfully the guard was not at the entrance he left for a bit. I spoke with her, gave her literature and she poured her heart out to me as she desired to have a child. I gave her info about the dangers of artificial contraception and I said , “I will pray you would have a child soon. “
I gave her a baby outfit and she seemed encouraged. All of a sudden, the guard’s booming voice broke the tender moment of hope with his screams at me to get out of the way as he yelled at the woman as well not to block the driveway!
No cars were behind her and if there would have been, I would have motioned her to pull over across the street and we would have continued the conversation.
She was startled and hit the gas pedal and turned left as I said, “I will pray for you. “
The guard with his Colt 45 nestled on his hip with a scolding voice , lectured me how I cannot block the driveway. I was quiet and received the tongue lashing and silently prayed, for you my Lord. Father forgive them they know not what they do.
I continued to pray while walking in the gutter in front of the mill with my literature and baby clothes in my hand.
About 15 min later, I noticed the young couple , I had pleaded with earlier to choose life. They could not see me . “Let’s talk, I have options, your sweet baby wants to live!”
As this couple drove out of the parking lot , the guard positioned himself at the driveway. He motioned the driver not to stop with a stern look and gesture to keep moving. The young woman in the passenger side, looked at me intently with a hopeful glance and grin. I knew they had chosen life for their baby!
I prayed Oh Lord, how I want to give them a baby outfit and chat a bit. I glanced down the street as they headed away from the mill and then the miracle happened. A garbage truck suddenly appeared, heading in the opposite direction . The garbage truck driver signaled and abruptly turned into the driveway in front of their car. He blocked both lanes as he began picking up the trash cans on the side of the road!
The timing was divine intervention! I ran down the street , approached the car , she rolled down the window and had the biggest smile on her face as she gladly took my baby outfit and literature as I thanked them for choosing life!
The garbage truck blocked the street for about 3 min. It was plenty of time for me to love on this young couple!
I walked back to the entrance where the guard watched the entire event unfold. I said nothing.
Another miracle at the mill . Indeed miracles happen between the cracks in the sidewalk and even in the middle of the street at Planned Parenthood.
